A year in art: Florence as cultural-heritage capital

Considered by the institutions as privileged locations for experimentation and the politics of artistic and cultural heritage promotion in Italy, the Uffizi of Florence, and the major exhibits organized in the museum district, are – along with the archeological areas of Rome and Pompeii, in Brera – at the heart of a slate of cultural events that inaugurate the new year. For the fifth edition of the program, “A Year in Art – Florence 2010,” the successful partnership among the museums of the Museum Board (Polo Museale) joins forces once again: the Cassa di Risparmio of Florence Organization with Florence Museums, with the cooperation of a number of other cultural entities and lenders. The exhibit program also reaches different museums this time around, offering six themes that cross over space and time, from Antiquity to the Renaissance to the Baroque. The themes of Antiquity, Humanism, and the Medici of the 15th century is highlighted in the exhibit, “Prestige and Beauty. Cameos and engravings of the Medici,” (running March – June 27, 2010).
