From 10 July to 5 December the Lorenzo Viani Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, located in the Palazzo delle Muse di Viareggio (Lucca), is home to the exhibition “Galileo Chini e la Toscana. La Toscana e Galileo Chini”, an exhibition curated byAlessandra Belluomini Pucci and Glauco Borella to round off the series of events to mark the Celebrations of the Liberty Movement in Italy.Inspired by his genius and embodied in his artistic output, Chini’s originality made its mark because it induced a radical change in the Tuscan workshop, which was still bound to old Renaissance stylistic features. Paintings, ceramics, preparatory drawings, posters and sets are among the works in the exhibition, which was devised to document the relationship between the artist and the Tuscan tradition.The show begins with Chini’s extensive painting activity, which covers the time span from the late 1800s to the 1940s; Chini’s evocative landscapes are differentiated and separated into the various historical periods by his prevailing state of mind, which is translated into visual images by means of scenes whose dominant feature is either the domestic peace he experienced while he lived in Versilia or th...
