The contemporary art Riviera

Liguria boasts estimable 20th century collections at Genoa’s Villa Croce Museum, La Spezia’s CAMEC, and Palazzo Gavotti in Savona. In order to valorize them, a regional centre, the CRAC, has recently been instituted

Liguria boasts several estimable contemporary art collections, which the regional administration has decided to valorize by creating an institution charged with coordinating actions among the various museums that hold them: this led to the establishment of the  Regional Centre for Contemporary Art (CRAC - Centro Regionale per l'Arte Contemporanea), with the collaboration of the Regional Foundation for Culture and the Performing Arts, the municipalities of Genoa, La Spezia and Savona, and the Palazzo Ducale Foundation in Genoa. The CRAC, which has been active for several months now, recently launched its first exhibition, “In the abstract – Abstract art in Italy 1930-1980”, currently running at La Spezia’s CAMEC after a summer premiere at London’s Estorick Collection.

The CRAC comprises three institutions tasked with promoting contemporary art: Genoa’s Villa Croce Museum, La Spezia’s CAMEC Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art, and Palazzo Gavotti – Foundation for the Milena Milani Museum of Contemporary Art in memory of Carlo Cardazzo in Savona.
