Parabita is home to ancient Dominican buildings: the Convent of Santa Maria dell'Umiltà (Our Lady of Humility) and the Chiesa del Rosario (Church of the Rosary), as well as the Convent of Santa Maria
della Coltura (Our Lady of Cultivation) with its adjacent Basilica.
The convent's foundation(and of the contemporary Church of the Rosary), dates back to 1405. It was a novitiate site, as well as spice shop and pawn-broker's. It was suppressed in
1809, and thereafter became the Municipality and then Carabinieri headquarters.
Parabita also hosts the Convent of Santa Maria della Coltura and the eponymous Basilica, founded in
1913. The convent contains a statue from 1750 and a number of paintings from the Church of
Humility; the Basilica also houses some frescoes.
