Animation of the 3D model representing the skeleton of Mammuthus meridionalis vestinus, found in 1954 in Madonna della Strada at Scoppito, about 15 kilometers from L’Aquila (Abruzzo, IT). It is exhibited in the eastern bastion of the Spanish Fortress at L'Aquila since 1960. Dated in the Lower Pleistocene, about one million and three hundred thousand years ago, it is one of the most complete mammuthus skeletons found in Europe. Its characteristics are the following: Species: Mammuthus meridionalis vestinus - Sex: male - Age: 50-55 years - Weight: 10 tons approximately - Height: 4 meters at the withers - Length: 7 meters from the tip of the defense to the end of the tail - Date: 1,300. 000 years ago - Sign of recognition: missing the left defense (tusk). The animation was made using the 3D model developed before the last skeleton restoration in 2015.
